Together we can make a difference

So here we are, June 2020, the middle of the year. To say that the
first half of this year has started off with a bang is an understatement. It has been one filled with a roller coaster of emotions, fear, sadness, anger, heartache, and reinvention. How can we have so many emotions in such a short span of time? During the latter part of March we began the fight for our lives literally with the pandemic, and we are still in this fight, as the world continues to find a cure. But wait, we entered June with another huge fight, one that has been fought over and over and over and over again for hundreds of years, the fight for justice, and the fight by blacks to be treated as humans. I am tired,
we are tired, and the world is tired of the senseless killings of black men and women like George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery, and so many others.

The need for change is long overdue, due process, accountability,
diversity, inclusion, and equality for all. So where do we go from here? I have seen protest around the world, news reports, read articles, and statements from organizations, but I ask again, where do we go from here? I know that these are not easy conversations, as a matter of fact, they may be very uncomfortable for some, so let us get uncomfortable, listen, hear our stories, and continue to strategize ways to move forward with respect, peace, human decency, and equality. By no means will this happen overnight, but we must start somewhere, now is the time, the senseless killings must stop. I believe in my heart and my soul that together we can make this world a better place. We are all in this together.

We have all had a few months to reevaluate our personal lives,
relationships, and our personal goals. If you have had the privilege of working from home over the last three months, perhaps you have thought about ways of staying healthy, strengthening your personal relationships, and hopefully using your voice to stand up for fair and equitable treatment for all.

There can be No Progress without Change

If you are like myself, it has been three months of snacking and sometimes making
unhealthy foods choices. It may be time to reboot your diet. How do we get started,
we are all different, with different body types, and speaking from experience it is best
to begin with a detox of some sort. You can do this by following a detox plan. It
consists of a focused, short term diet that will allow your body to eliminate toxins and
jump-start a weight loss program or help you to completely alter your eating habits.
One of the main goals of a detox diet is to eliminate toxins from your body. Wheat, such as pasta and bread is
usually eliminated completely during a detox, as well as sweeteners, such as refined sugar and high fructose
corn syrup. In addition, most detox diets encourage you to eat lots of fruits and vegetables, sometimes as
smoothies and shakes. Detoxing can help you to reboot your diet and set the stage for improving your eating
habits and your health. As the old adage goes “you are what you eat”, I enjoy sweet snacks, but I would rather
be a healthy shake, than a slice of cake.
Fast forward, you have completed the detoxification for your body, now t’s time to add some sort of physical
activity to your daily regimen. This can be walking, utilizing a piece fitness equipment, or working out to a
video. I enjoy working out and I cannot use the gym being closed as an excuse, because I have plenty of
workout equipment. I hit the reboot button during the last weekend of May and refocused on my food intake
and began working out again. The healthy lifestyle journey is not easy, however well worth the investment in
our physical and mental well-being. Run your own race, slow and steady, and do what is best for you.
Exercising is just a small percentage of the healthy journey, the key element is nourishment.
